Margaret Yvette Vigil

Margaret Vigil, who many of you knew by the name of Margaret Gomez, was a leader in the compliance community. She put integrity first in everything she did and had a heart as big as the ocean. Sadly, Margaret passed away on May 31st. I profoundly miss her and I know that all of those who knew her feel the same way. One of the best things Margaret did was to introduce her daughter Ronda to us and to the endeavor of compliance. Because of this, I feel that Margaret’s great spirit will continue to be part of our endeavor. We were blessed to have Margaret as part of our circle of friends and colleagues and wish her family the best. To view Margaret's full obituary click here

Sincerely,

Mark Pastin and HET Staff

Hotlines & Investigations Course On-Line

The Health Ethics Trust began offering on-line courses for compliance professionals in order to meet the needs of professionals to gain education and certification within limited travel budgets.

Well, travel and education budgets are slimmer than we ever imagined.  We understand, and it is our goal to help you meet your education and certification requirements within budget.  Thus, we have dramatically reduced the tuition on our Hotlines and Investigations Course.  Through July 15, 2009, members can take the course for $195 and non-members $395.

This course provides in-depth education on all aspects of hotline operation and conducting related investigations.

Remember that you can become an individual member through June 30 for only $150!

The Pastin Report on Best Compliance Practices

As many of you know, The Pastin Report has been on hiatus. During its many years of publication, we had no idea who if anyone read it. When we suspended publication, we found out that it was much enjoyed by many. So we are bringing it back - Volume 7, Number 1 is now available - May 2008.

OIG Workplan 2009

The OlG Work Plan sets forth various projects to be addressed during the fiscal year by the Office of Audit Services, Office of Evaluation and Inspections, Office of Investigations, and Office of Counsel to the Inspector General. The Work Plan includes projects planned in each of the Department's major entities: the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; the public health agencies; and the Administrations for Children, Families, and Aging. Information is also provided on projects related to issues that cut across departmental programs, including State and local government use of Federal funds, as well as the functional areas of the Office of the Secretary. Some of the projects described in the Work Plan are statutorily required, such as the audit of the Department's financial statements, which is mandated by the Government Management Reform Act.
